BORN TO AN OLIVE GREEN
The end of winters was nearing and a few tiny little buds had statrted to yawn. In that magnificent stone bungalow of the National Defense Academy a little baby girl was born to the most beautiful couple!!
Probably that's where my fascination with the Army can be traced back to. For back then all i must have heard and watched must have been the drill commands and cadets with weird hair cuts running with their bicycle on their shoulders! That is when it all began tat is wen this beautiful journey began!
As soon as i learnt to walk and started to grasp things, i was instructed to behave and sit quietly in the Mess. Mumma's "DON'T TOUCH" glare wen we got anywhere near the Mess trophy lol I still remember that! Those dining in and out speeches during which all the Unit kids used to be locked in the T.V Room and good lord! all the kids going wild inside specially the neverending fight of who will have the remote :D Finally when we used to be let loose we'd run to our parents and then would commence the goodnight uncle goodnight aunty time :D being repeated over and over and overrr again and if we didn't wish somebody it would become such an issue!
Finding absolutely any reason to party and landing at each others places was fun! and O! the newly weds the unit's 'bachha party and bachelor party' sure gave them a tough time! Brrring brrring brrring in the dead of the night crashing at their places because everybody wants to have coffee!
I have so many SO MANY stories to share.. i can probably go on and on and on.... From the typical yum 'badakhana' food to unit picnics, all kids outings, weekly social evenings, pool parties and going to school in the massive one ton or on the cycle with bhaiya!
Everything about that life has taught me something or the other....
The frequent posting and changing the set of friends every two years and still making the best of friends everywhere made me a cheerful adjusting person and an extrovert.. attending mess parties taught me a lil sophistication.. getting all the responsibilities and being better than others was taught in the Army Schools of those remote areas which generated self confidence! Having crazy fun yet staying in limits. learning crucial lessons of life and valuing life itself was learnt just by observing silently! Being with the second family God gave called the UNIT was an experience of its own!
Few years i have before these experiences will become treasured memories and i myself will be a civillian. Whatever way the future unfolds I'll ALWAYS FEEL BLESSED TO BE BORN TO AN OLIVE GREEN =)
Crisp.
